Problematic Behavior

Continuing our last about autism behavior. Then it tickles us to know when do we know that our child having problematic behavior or its just normal act of children seeking for attentions.

Okay to answer When should we consider a behavior to be problematic enough that something should be done? I believe that a problem behavior is one that:
• interferes with the learning and development of the child himself
• interferes with the learning and development of other children
• causes a potentially unsafe situation and/or
• is socially and/or culturally inappropriate or unacceptable.

Understanding Autism

The most important way to begin to understand a child with autism is to observe him. This should always be your first step. Watching him in everyday life helps you see how he tries to understand and make sense of the world, events and
people around him.

Before you start, set aside all information you may have heard or read about the child. Do not think about him in terms of impairments or delays. Think about him in terms of how he may be trying to make sense of his world and make it more tolerable.

Cognitive style or Learning difference

There has been increasing discussion of autism as being less a disability than a ‘cognitive style’ or ‘learning difference’. Simon Baron-Cohen (2000) cited 12 differences in children with autism to support his argument that “behavior in Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism is not better or worse than that seen in typical development” (p.490); it is simply different.The list includes:

• the child spends more time involved with objects and physical systems than with people
• the child communicates less than other children do

Strength among disorder

Like any other disease and disorder, patients are commonly being avoided, like a contagious disease. And its getting worst with the first diagnostic from medical consultant which started with negative state of sentences.

Sentences such as lack of, failure to, impairment of, come along with disorder, which might indicated the disease or disorder as mutually exclusive. But between those disorder, especially in patients with Autism, there are strength, the became smart and stand out in some exams.
